My wife was ignoring nagging messages to update macOS Sierra on her 2011 MacBook Air so I did it for her, all good.

2008 MacBook Air (MacBookAir 1,1)- Note: Make sure SIP is disabled on the system you intend to install High Sierra on. Download free photoshop editing software for windows 7. If it's not or you're unsure, just boot into your Recovery partition of your currently installed copy of OS X, open Terminal, and run 'csrutil disable'. I then installed the recommended update to High Sierra, when disaster struck. It was unusable, dreadfully slow, CPU activity at 300-500%, worked okay in Safe Mode.
If you are using a mac os lion, update it first to el capitan and you can update it to high sierra, no need to create a bootable device. For my experience the mac os mojave is not sopported on macbook pro a1286 model. That's why im still using high sierra in 2019. Hi all, I have recently got a MacBook Air 2011 from a friend, so it has lion on it at the moment but im wanting to upgrade it to high sierra, to do this i need to install El Capitan firs then go to high sierra, When trying to install El Cap it just comes up with missing components and wont install it and bricks so i have had to revert back to lion, What am i doing wrong?

After days of trying to work out how to revert to an earlier version, I installed El Capitan in a roundabout way. No installer would ever complete, so I installed El Capitan on a USB stick (installed it, not made an installer), then cloned that onto another. I then booted the MacBook into the first USB stick, then cloned the second stick onto the internal SSD after first erasing its contents with Disk Utility.

So—I thought—I basically had a fresh install of El Capitan starting from a clean slate.

For good measure I performed PRAM and SMC resets, so this is as close to a factory reset as you can get.

Yet.. on rebooting, the MacBook is just as slow as it was after updating to High Sierra.

Macbook Pro Sierra UpdateActivity Monitor reports %CPU at 400-500% with no apps open (except activity monitor) though no individual process is using very much at all.

High Sierra For Macbook ProIn Safe Mode the figures look entirely normal and the laptop is responsive, except for so much screen flickering that it's not a viable alternative.
